2013 Geneva Motor Show

If we are nearing the end of February, then it must be time for the Geneva Auto Show that takes place each year in March. This is the 83rd time that automakers will gather in the Swiss city to display their latest models; the Palexpo center will open its gates on March 5 for the press and two days later for the public and will last until March 17.

In spite of all the fuss about “green” transportation, the 2013 Geneva Auto Show’s most anticipated new models are sports cars.

First and foremost, there’s the Alfa Romeo 4C – a two-seater, rear-wheel drive coupe with a carbon fiber chassis that heralds the Italian manufacturer’s new era and its long-anticipated return to the U.S. market.

Then there’s the Formula 1 duel that has been taken to the streets: Ferrari will unveil the Enzo successor, code-named F150, and rival McLaren, the production version of the P1. Interestingly, both hypercars will be powered by hybrid powertrains and despite putting out in excess of 900-horses, they promise ultra-low CO2 emissions.

Other sports car that will make their premiere in Geneva are the open-top versions of the brand-new Corvette Stingray and the Toyota GT 86 (Scion FR-S in the U.S.), the Aston Martin Rapide S and Vantage SP10 and, of course, a special Lamborghini to celebrate the Sant’ Agata-based company’s 50th anniversary.

Naturally, the show won’t be only about sports cars: BMW will launch the 3-Series GT, China's Qoros its 3 Sedan, Volvo its updated range and the VW Group the electrified Audi A3 and VW Golf models.

That’s far from a full description of the cars that will debut at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show, but you can scroll down and view the provisional list in detail.

Like every year, the Volkswagen Group held a special media event on the night before the opening of the Geneva International Auto Salon, where it rolled out all a selection of its world premieres.

Two of the most eye-catching and talked about models were the Lamborghini Veneno and the Porsche 911 GT3 – coincidentally, the former to celebrate the Italian brand's 50th anniversary, and the latter the 50th birthday of the 911 series.

Bugatti showed off another specially version of the Veyron hypercar, while Bentley was represented by the new Flying Spur luxury sedan, and Italdesign by the Lamborghini-powered Parcour concept cars.

Other new models to go on show were the super-frugal VW XL1, of which only 250 examples will be built, the VW e-Co-Motion van, the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron and RS6 Avant, the Seat Leon SC, and the latest generation of the Skoda Octavia.

We'll have more pictures and details on each car from the Geneva Motor Show tomorrow morning.

Bugatti Launches One-Off Grand Sport Vitesse “Gris Rafale” at Sao Paulo Show

Displaying an existing car in a new color at an international auto show is not something worth mentioning. The Bugatti Veyron, however, is as far as removed from 99.9 percent of the cars sold on the planet that it can afford to do so and still make headlines.

With the 1,182HP (1200PS) Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport being now the sole model in Bugatti’s range, the VW Group’s most exclusive brand is keen on launching one-off versions to keep interest going – and in the process, make a nifty profit.

Bugatti has announced that it will bring the model in Brazil (so form an orderly queue, please) and the one-off Grand Sport Vitesse “Gris Rafale” that was launched at the Sao Paulo auto show was the perfect way to celebrate the occasion.

The new version is named after its grey paint and sports blue accents on the A-pillars, the roof arches, the rollover hoops that incorporate the engine’s air intakes and the air brake.

In the interior, the “Gris Rafale” features “lake blue” leather and contrasting light grey stitching.

If you have to ask, you probably can’t afford it anyway, but for the record, the “Gris Rafale” goes for €1.9 million (US$2.5 million), or €210,000 (US$280,000) more than the “regular” Veyron Grand Vitesse.

Which, you'll be glad to know, is exactly the asking price for the previous one-off Veyron, the white and baby blue car that we saw last month in Paris.

UK Bugatti saleswoman sells nearly one Veyron per month

Selling cars is difficult enough without your company's only product being a $2.2 million supercar, but that doesn't seem to have slowed down Anita Krizsan.

As a sales representative for Bugatti, Krizsan sold 11 Veyron models to clients around the world last year, and her efforts have earned her the nickname "The $15 million woman." For comparison's sake, most of the company's salesmen are happy to move three of the ultra cars in a calendar year, and Krizsan's exploits mean she's the worldwide Bugatti sales leader. But getting there has been plenty of work.

The sales rep is available to clients 24 hours a day, and many times, potential customers call her in the middle of the night with questions about the car or its warranty. Krizsan even personally attends every delivery.

What's next for the sales star? She says she wants to see more female buyers in the near future. Right now, there are only four female Veyron owners worldwide.

Mini-Me Bugatti Veyron Clone Built on a Suzuki

With 1,001PS (987hp) and a top speed of 408.47 km/h (253.81 mph) for the base model, and 1,200PS (1,184hp) and an even higher maximum speed of 431.072 km/h (267.856 mph) for the Super Sport, what's not to like about Bugatti's Veyron hypercar?
Well, you can start with the fact that production is limited to a few hundred cars, but what we really dislike about the Veyron is its $1.7 million + price tag…

While you won't be surprised to learn that other gearheads feel the same, you may lift an eyebrow after seeing what some people will do about it.

Enter the world of Indian custom builder SF Carz and its miniscule Bugatti Veyron replica. The pint-size clone is built on the underpinnings of the local market Maruti Esteem, which you may also know as the (old) Suzuki Swift, Holden Barina, Geo Metro and Pontiac Firefly, just to mention a few of the names that Suzuki's model has been marketed around the world.

Unfortunately, the resizing applies to all aspects of the car, including the engine, as power comes from an ancient 1.3-liter petrol unit rated for 85-horses. Still, something tells us that this model may gather as much attention on the road as the real thing – albeit for all the wrong reasons…
