2014 Jaguar F-Type

The new Jaguar F-Type represents a return to the company's heart: a two-seat, convertible sports car focused on performance, agility and driver involvement. The F-Type is a continuation of a sporting bloodline that stretches back more than 75 years and encompasses some of the most beautiful, thrilling and desirable sports cars ever built. Joining the XK convertible and coupe models, the new F-Type provides Jaguar with a broader line of sports and GT models.

The 2014 Jaguar F-Type combines low vehicle weight (starting at 3,521 pounds), high power (340hp, 380hp and 495hp versions) and superb aerodynamics to achieve a pure sports car experience, yet with Jaguar elegance and luxury.

A true two-seat sports car, the all-new Jaguar F-Type is equipped with a modern, lightweight soft top that, when lowered, serves as its own tonneau cover. This not only provides a weight savings, but also improves packaging and contributes to the car's low center of gravity for greater agility. The top can be fully raised or lowered in just 12 seconds at speeds of up to 30 mph. Its multi-layer construction includes a Thinsulate® lining for optimal thermal and sound-insulating properties.

If you’re into personalization, you’ll be into the Jaguar F-Type. Body color options include Ultimate Black, Polaris White, Italian Racing Red, Rhodium Silver, Grey and Firesand. The Black pack, available on the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 model and the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 version, comes with additional black tweaks like gloss black finishes for the grill surround, side vents, a flat-bottomed sport steering wheel, gloss black interior touches, and instrument panel rings.

Andy Goss, President, Jaguar Land Rover North America said “Jaguar is growing its product lineup to meet a far wider spectrum of customer demands ranging from sedans with 2.0 liter and 3.0 liter engines and All Wheel Drive to the exciting new F-TYPE sports car. It is clear that performance will continue to lie at the heart and soul of the brand. To that end, the growing R performance lineup offers our customers the truly elevated dynamics and design, but in a Jaguar luxury package. The Jaguar XJR is a British performance machine that delivers emotionally and dynamically on the road and on the track.”

The first visual differentiation on the new aggressive looking Jag is the dark grille with an ‘R’ badge which generally is chromed in the Jaguar lineup. A revised bumper, spoiler, vented hood, new set of wheels and racy red calipers. The steering, suspension and braking dynamics have been tested at the manufacturer’s Nürburgring test facility.

The 550 bhp supercharged V8 has been retained from the Jaguar XFR-S that was showcased last year at the Los Angeles Motor Show. Shifting duties will be taken care of by an 8 speed paddle shifted ZF auto transmission. Though official performance figures haven’t been announced yet, but expect the big leaping cat to clock 0-100 kph just over 4 seconds with top speed to be likely in the region of 300 kph.

Jaguar was founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company by Sir William Lyons in 1922, originally making motorcycle sidecars before developing passenger cars. The name was changed to Jaguar after World War II to avoid the unfavourable connotations of the SS initials. Following a merger with the British Motor Corporation in 1968, subsequently subsumed by Leyland, which itself was later nationalised as British Leyland, Jaguar was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1984, and became a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index until it was acquired by Ford in 1990. Jaguar has, in recent years, manufactured cars for the Prime Minister, the most recent delivery being an XJ in May 2010. The company also holds royal warrants from HM Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Charles.

Jaguar cars today are designed in Jaguar Land Rover's engineering centres at the Whitley plant in Coventry and at their Gaydon site in Warwickshire, and are manufactured in Jaguar's Castle Bromwich assembly plant near Birmingham.
